NURTW Attacks Zamfara Fire Service, Injured State Director, Others

Members of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers, NURTW, Zamfara state branch has attacked staff of the state fire service on Wednesday, living ten with a serious degree of injury.

Among those injured during the attack includes the State Director of the Fire Service, Abdullahi Jibo Dauran and ten others.

Briefing newsmen at the Amenity ward of Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau, the State Commissioner of Works Alhaji Rabiu Garba Said the government had taken adequate measures to address the issue.

Alhaji Rabiu Garba said already the Deputy Governor Senator Hassan Nasiha who is also acting as the Governor of the state had been briefed and assured to punish the perpetrators of the deadly act.

He described the act as barbaric, unfortunate as the government was currently doing its best to ensure citizens were enjoying lasting peace across the state.

Speaking to newsmen on his sickbed, the State Director of the Fire Service, Abdullahi Jibo Dauran said NURTW members have invaded their premises onboard 3 Homer Buses with their State Chairman Hamisu Kasuwar Daji directing members to attack State Fire Service personnel.

“I was trying to control my personnel and directed them to Lock our gate but the Union members overpowered them and start beating them with sticks and merchants living ten people wounded including myself” the State Director of the Fire Service explained.

Lawali Damba was one of the victims of the attack who explained that the clash resulted from a minor disagreement between him and the members of the Union which was resolved amicably and later escalated following the involvement of the NURTW Chairman, Hamisu Kasuwar Daji.

When Radio Nigeria visited the Fire Service Office, it find out that, the gate was locked and a lot of stones were seen at the premises.

All efforts to contact the State Police Public Relation Officer SP Muhammad Shehu proved abortive, like wise the NURTW Chairman Hamisu kasuwar Daji as some sources revealed that he is under police detention.
