Covid 19 : Over 3M Vaccinated In Jigawa – Perm Sec.

Jigawa State Government says over 3 million people received first dosage of Covid-19 vaccine in the state which represent almost 70% of the state targeted population.

The Permanent Secretary of the state ministry of health, Dr Salisu Muazu stated  this during a media engagement forum organized by Correspondent’s Chapel held at Manpower Development Centre Dutse.

According to him, the state is currently second in terms of vaccination coverage in Nigeria by population proportion.

Dr Salisu Muazu further explained that, over 400,000 people have received second dosage of the vaccine from across the state.

He said that, the Jigawa state government in collaboration with traditional leaders and other stakeholders contributed in creating awareness and public mobilization for accepting the vaccine which proved to be safe and effective.

The Permanent Secretary added that, the state government has established a permanent isolation centre which has 54 beds capacity in Dutse capital for management of Covid-19 and other related epidemic cases such as Ebola, Lassa fever, yellow fever and among others.

He noted that, in 2021 over 900,000 people were vaccinated against cholera when the disease outbreak was reported in some local government areas of the state in when over 120 people lost their lives.

Dr Muazu pointed out that, the state has currently strengthen its disease surveillance in anticipation of possible meningitis outbreak as some isolated cases were reported in some parts of the state.

The Permanent Secretary therefore reiterated the commitment of the state government to provide quick response to any disease outbreak to ensure it didn’t get out of control.
