Niger Governor Is Acting APC National Chairman

Written by Bunmi Abdulraheem

Governor of Niger state, Abubakar Sani Bello, has presided over a meeting of the All Progressives Congress’s national caretaker committee on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.

He also administered the oath of office to the party’s state chairpersons, a job that Yobe governor Mai Mala Buni would have performed.

The Governor said he has been serving as acting national chairman of the APC’s caretaker committee “for a time now.”

“I’ve been acting for a while because the chairman was away,” he answered when asked if he had taken over the party.

“The state chairmen took their oaths of office today, and we discussed convention progress thus far and what needs to be done next so that we can meet on March 26,” he stated.

Earlier, John Akpanudoedehe, national secretary of the caretaker committee, rejected rumours of a leadership shift.

“Our attention has been directed to sponsored media stories about a fictitious leadership shift in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC),” Akpanudoedehe stated.

According to him, the media report was false and should be ignored. “The APC is a rule-based progressive political party”, he said.

Leadership changes are not revealed by sources through name dropping in the media, Akpanudoedehe added.
