Jigawa State Targets Increased IGR, Economic Diversification

Jigawa State Government has reiterated its commitment towards de-emphasizing borrowing while plunging leakages and boosting internally generated revenue.

Governor Badaru Abubakar stated this when he inspected one of the private sector investment established in Gumel local government of the state.

According to the him, the benefits of a private investment cannot be overemphasized as it provides employment and economic activities to the people especially the host community.

Badaru said the state government through its investment and promotion agency will continue to facilitate and support private sector investments in the state.

He said over 500 hectares of land was provided to a company to develop a sesame academy that will enhance the technical capacity of sesame farmers not only in Jigawa but in the whole of the sesame producing region of West Africa.

The Governor therefore commended the company for their dogged commitment by creating an organic sesame farm, farmers academy, a dripping irrigation, sesame cleaning plant and warehouse.

Also speaking, the Chairman and Chief executive of the Company, Alhaji Farouk Bashir Muhammad Gumel said, the farm was established to compliment the federal and state government’s effort of diversifying economy through the agricultural sector.

Radio Nigeria reports that Governor Badaru and management team of the company also visited the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani in his palace to appreciate the emirate council efforts for enlightening local farmers, host community and other stakeholders about the importance of the project.

The Governor was accompanied by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Relations, Alhaji Habibu Nuhu Kila, Special Assistant on community and inclusion, Alhaji Hamza Muhammad Hadejia and other top government officials.
