Workers of the Kwara State-Owned Tertiary Institutions under the umbrella of Committee of Unions in Tertiary Institutions (CUTI) have issued 14 days ultimatum within which the state should implement the National Minimum Wage or risk industrial action in all the Institutions.

This was part of the resolutions reached during the statewide tour of CUTI for consultation with stakeholders through joint Congresses at the State Colleges of Education in Oro, Ilorin, (Technical), Lafiagi and Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS) Ilorin .

Addressing the separate Congresses in the Colleges, the State CUTI Chairman, Comrade Oladimeji Gegele who led the team of other Executives described the exclusion of the state tertiary Institutions from the implementation of new minimum wage for the mainstream workers in the state as unfair.

According to him all efforts by the Committee through several letters and meetings with the State government’s representatives on the need to include CUTI in the Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee set up to represent the interest of its members were futile.

Comrade Gegele frowned at the delay tactics of government on the Minimum Wage Implementation for members .

He explained that the statewide joint congresses was designed to acquaint their members on the update and seek their response on the way forward.
