FG Grants Scholarship To Young Nigerian Scientists

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has presented certificates to the three winners of this year’s 774 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award finalists.

Presenting the certificate to the winners after the final examination in Abuja, Dr. Onu said the programme was the initiative of the ministry to create awareness and encourage the young people to have interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics, STEM-related fields.

The Minister who said the country was blessed with both human and material resources noted that the initiative was also aimed at developing the skills of the students to effectively utilise it for the benefit of the economy.

According to the minister, the three winners would be presented cash awards and scholarships to any university of their choice to the Ph.D. level during the forthcoming Science, Technology, and Innovation EXPO. 

The Minister of State Mr. Abdullahi Mohammed explained that the ministry had many other programmes targeted at the development of the young people in the field of Sciences and promised the ministry’s commitment to follow up in the progress of the students especially the winners.

The Chief examiner Prof. Uno Uno said twenty-three States participated in the examination that features Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

The winners of the competition that started from the local government to the State and the federal level are Maryam Olufunmilayo Ogunbayo from Gombe State came first,Gbolahan Azeem Ayinde from Ogun State came second while Uchendu Mmesomachukwu Judith from Edo State came third.
