ASUU Declares One Month Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has declared a one-month “complete and total” strike.

ASUU’s National Executive Council NEC voted in favour of the strike on Monday morning, at a meeting that lasted several hours in Lagos.

Members of the NEC have held several meetings, the most recent of which was at the University of Lagos.

While speaking to journalists, ASUU President Prof Emmanuel Osodeke announced the Union’s resolution.

According to the union, the strike was prompted by the federal government’s hesitation toward an agreement reach with them, on their salaries and allowances, as well as the adoption of the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) payroll software.

In an interview with Radio Nigeria, Dr Kasim Umar, Chairman of the University of Abuja chapter of ASUU, stated that a committee has already been formed to ensure total compliance.

A 9-month strike in 2020 had brought university education in the country to a standstill.
