Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says that it will commence the configuration of Biometric Voter Accreditation System, BVAS in preparation for the FCT Area Council elections, scheduled on the 12th of next month.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu stated this in Abuja, during the first quarterly consultative meeting with the media.

Professor Mahmoud Yakubu told the media that the commission would ensure that the device work better than it did during the Anambra Governorship election.

The INEC boss, also called on the new registrants in the FCT, to go and collect their permanent voters cards for them not to be disenfranchised.

He said that the Commission would work with the National Union of Road Transport Workers and sign Memorandum of understanding with the vehicle owners for effective Transportation of men and materials on election day.

The INEC boss also explained that the Federal Road Safety Commission would inspect the vehicles to be used on election day to ascertain its road worthiness.

In a remark, National President, Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ, Mr Chris Isiguzo, represented by the Union’s treasurer, Mr Atunbi Bamidele said, the media would continue to support INEC to ensure the sustenance of the country’s democratic values.

He also appealed to the political class to play by the rules and eschew thuggery and violence during the forthcoming election in the FCT.
