Senate Committee on Appropriation

The Senate has promised to lay, discuss and approve the 2022 Appropriation Act on Tuesday the 21st of December 2021

Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation alhaji Barau Jibrin gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen on how the committee was prepared to present the budget

Alhaji Barau explained that the appropriation bill would be presented tomorrow for consideration by the Senate.

He said the committee patiently delayed the presentation last week while waiting to receive the Independent Electoral Commission’s budget for 2022 before consideration and passage.

Speaking, the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmud Yakubu expressed appreciation to the appropriation committee that suspended its presentation due to the importance attached to the Commission’s activities, saying they were grateful for that.

Professor Mahmud, said INEC presented a sum of three hundred and five billion naira as a proposal for the 2023 General elections, through the executive to the National Assembly.

He added that INEC had submitted a comprehensive twenty two oage decument with a two hundred and sixty budget lines

According to him, the proposal containing the sum of a hundred and forty billion naira is made available to INEC as one line item in the budget, saying as usual broke it down and submitted to the supervising committees of both houses and same to the appropriation committee.

The INEC Chairman urged the committee to consider the task before the commission as all the year-round elections , not seasonal, arguing that currently, the commission had about eight pending by-elections three for the federal constituency and five for state constituencies

Many of the committee members expressed appreciations with the way INEC was conducting its businesses and advised to continue, promising to do what required as legislatures for successful elections in Nigeria.
