Invasion : Taraba State Seeks Enhanced Border Control

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has sought the assistance of the Federal Government in containing the invasions of Cameroonian attackers.

Speaking with newsmen after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, the Governor explained that 11 people, including the chief of Manga, a small border town, were killed by the assailants in their latest invasion.

He appealed to the Federal Government to establish a naval base and immigration posts in the state to secure, police and monitor movements of people between Nigeria and Cameroon.

The Governor said he also sought assistance of funds, through CBN loans, to boost rain-fed and dry season farming in especially rice, which could empower over 20,000 youngsters.

Similarly, Governor Ishaku sought the intervention of the Federal Government in obtaining a long-term loan from Czech Republic, and in retrieving the 2, 000 tractors ordered, but got stuck in that country for over 2 years now.

He said he needed to build a lot of canals to direct water during dry season from RiversTaraba, Donga, and Gongola to farms.

Governor Ishaku stressed that Taraba State had arable land for growing soy beans, beniseed, avocado, cassava, cocoa, palm trees, rubber and all tropical trees, including coffee and tea, hence the need to seek help.
