Kaduna State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers-NUT has debunked reports making the rounds that its members participated in the competency test organised by the State Government.

Chairman of the Union, Comrade Ibrahim Dalhatu stated this while briefing newsmen in Kaduna.

Comrade Ibrahim Dalhatu explained that prior to the scheduled test, the Union collected commitment forms signed by teachers indicating their resolve not to write the test.

Similarly, prior to the commencement of the test, the Chairman said the union approached the court seeking for an interlocutory injunction stopping SUBEB from conducting the test and status-quo be maintained since the matter is before the court.

He noted that at a meeting convened by the State Commissioner of Education involving the NUT, TSB and SUBEB, the Commissioner directed that parties involved should negotiate on the issue, but alleged that SUBEB went ahead to conduct the test without regards to the Commissioner’s directive.

Comrade Ibrahim Dalhatu however re-iterated the Union’s resolve not to write any test, stressing that the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria-TRCN is the only body constitutionally mandated to conduct competency test for teachers nationwide.
