The Jigawa State Council of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners says no single kobo of any member of the Union is being owned by the state government.
The State Chairman, AlhajI Umaru Sani Babura disclosed this at this year’s Pensioners day celebrations held in Dutse, the state capital.
He also reminded Governor Badaru Abubakar on the promise he made on this year’s May day celebration for the implementation and harmonization of minimum pension to the state pensioners as implemented and effected in the payment of 30 thousand naira minimum wage to the state civil servants.
Alhaji Umaru Sani Babura therefore urged the Governor to look into their demands and its full implementation.
He commended Governor Badaru Abubakar for all the welfare the pensioners are enjoying in the state, particularly the prompt payment of pension every month as well as the payment of gratuity to newly retired civil servants.
According to him, the National President of the union expressed gratitude to the federal government for their prompt action on payment of pension and gratuity to retired workers and PTAD for the introduction of I am Alive project.
Also in an interview with Radio Nigeria, the state Women leader of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners Hajiya Hadiza Abdulwahab, urged pensioners to engage in various exercise and businesses such as farming, consultancy among others.
It could be recalled that, the setting aside of 11th December every year to be marked as pensioners day was the brainchild of the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC, championed by its former President Comrade Adams Oshiomole in April 1990.
The theme of this years pensioners day is enhancement of pensioners welfare through information technology ICT.
