Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has sought for the deployment of adequate number of security personnel to ensure a hitch-free Christmas celebration.

Speaking with State House correspondents after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, the Governor said he wanted to guarantee the safety of indigenes returning home for the celebration.

Governor Uzodinma said the demand for the deployment of additional security personnel was prompted by the atrocities being committed by yet-to-be-arrested inmates that escaped from the Correctional Facility in Owerri, the state capital.

He expressed concern that out of the 1836 inmates that escaped from the Correctional Facilities, only about 700 hundred had either returned voluntarily or re-arrested, noting that the number of those on the rampage, committing heinous crime, was overwhelming, and could spell doom if nothing was not done about it.

According to him, President Buhari realized the importance of Christmas, and in his usual manner, addressed the issues presented to his satisfaction.

He also said President Buhari had approved the release of funds he requested to support the fight against insecurity in the state.
