Nigeria, Belarus To Strengthen Bilateral Relationship

Nigeria is to collaborate with the Republic of Belarus to enhance mutual benefit of both countries.

President Buhari stated this in Abuja while receiving in audience a Special Envoy of President Alexandar Lukashenko of Belarus, General Victor Sheiman.

The President told the Special Envoy that he was impressed with the progress Belarus had made in building a virile nation, noting that Nigeria can benefit from her experiences.

He said he had taken note of the capacities of Belarus, and that Nigeria would consult with her in areas of collaboration.

The President said Nigeria would especially want both countries to work together in agriculture, on which he said Nigeria had the land and the workforce, while Belarus had the technology.

General Sheiman had commended President Buhari for working hard for the betterment of Nigerians, just as President Lukashenko is doing in Belarus.

He said Belarus was a stable and friendly country, trying to be self-sufficient in many areas, and promised to offer ample opportunities to Nigerians.

General Sheiman told President Buhari that his country would want co-operation in industry, agriculture, petroleum, refineries, education, joint trading, transport, building of oil and gas pipelines, manufacturing of tyres, tractors, and defense equipment.

The Special Envoy said his country was fully sufficient in agriculture, which had been selling surplus food products worth about 7 billion dollar yearly.

He further said Belarus was ready to co-operate with Nigeria in mechanised agriculture, and in the fight against terrorism.
