Centenary: FG To Support SCA On Improving Research Development

Federal Government says it will continue to render necessary support to the Samaru College of Agriculture SCA, ABU Zaria, towards improving research and Agricultural development in the country.

The Minister of Education Mal. Adamu Adamu stated this during the 100 years centenary celebration of the college, held at ABU Samaru.

Represented by the Director of University Education in the Ministry, Miss Rukayya Iliyasu, said the college had come a long way with different professionalism in the sector and still wax strong towards delivering on producing middle-level manpower in sustainable agriculture through enhanced technological practices to face the global challenges.

In a presentation, Prof. Saluhu Dadare urged Government to provide market prices on farms input on yearly basis to curtail inflation and unnecessary loss by the Nigerian farmers.

Earlier, the Vice-chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala said the college had lived up to expectations by contributing immensely in training on middle-level manpower in agriculture.

He described the centenary lecture as timely and in line with the Federal Government’s agenda of improving Agriculture productivity to enhance food security and economic stability.

Also speaking, the Emir of Zazzau, Mal. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, who Congratulates the College over the hundred years centenary Celebration advocated more innovation to take Agriculture to the next level.

Similarly, the Director Division of Agricultural Colleges, Prof. Musa Abdullahi confirmed that the college was the first of its kind in northern Nigeria and in the whole country that makes significant contributions in manpower training mostly in Agricultural Extension Services.

He said highly experienced extension workers, excellent administrators, and civil servants who can perform the duty of transmitting improved husbandry techniques to farmers were trained by the college.

Highlights of the event were the exhibition and the commissioning of some projects by the Minister and other guests among others.
