Zamfara State Government has banned all commissioners, special advisers and other top government officials on information dissemination and management.

The state commissioner of information Ibrahim Magaji Dosara announced this while briefing members of the correspondents chapel in Gusau, the state capital.

Ibrahim Dosara said information was now centralised and streamed to avoid disseminating fake news and concocted stories considering the current situation of the state.

Dosara also observed that though modern advancement in information technology had made information gathering cheaper and faster, it also brought challenges in the forms of fake news and other vices

He maintained that properly managed information was not a way of hiding fact from the public, a deviation from the truth or deny them of right of being informed, noting that all information will be made available to any one seeking for it.

According to him, with the current development, only information commissioner will give information on government policies and programs while the special adviser on media and public enlightenment will make information available on the governor, his family among others.

The Commissioner further explained that, the effect of fake news and hate speech in the fight against insecurity and other criminality were the major stumbling block towards development of the state and the country in general.

The state’s spokesperson also explained that no exclusive with other heads of MDAs and any one found giving information, such would be considered invalid.
