A renowned Islamic scholar in Gusau, Malam Aminu Aliyu, has called for Real and authentic data of orphans in the country.

The cleric made the call in Gusau, the state capital, during a lecture organised by Center for Supporting Vulnerable Household, Women and Children as part of this year’s World Orphans Day celebration.

Malam Aminu Aliyu said, a census and comprehensive list of orphans across the state, had become necessary for projections to be made on ways to cater for the future of the less privileged children.

He said the lingering bloodshed by bandits had, over the years, resulted to thousands of orphans across the state and the country in general.

The Executive Chairman, Zakkat Board, Mallam Abubakar Sodangi, said that, some nongovernmental organisations had, as at 2011 given 40,000 as number of orphans in Zamfara state.

He also reminded the community and Government on their responsibilities to cater for the vulnerable by providing them shelter, food, education, adequate healthcare among others.
