Reps Summons FCT Minister Over Rising Insecurity

Federal capital territory, FCT, minister, Mohammed Bello, has been summoned by the House of Representatives in connection with the insecurity in Abuja.

The resolution was passed during a plenary session on Tuesday following the acceptance of a motion of urgent public importance proposed by Toby Okechukwu, the house’s deputy minority leader.

Okechukwu, who led the debate on the motion, told his colleagues that urgent action was needed to preserve lives and property in the FCT.

He also bemoaned the country’s capital’s deteriorating infrastructure, stating that even street lighting had gone unrepaired.

The member further accused the FCT government of assigning plots in green areas “clearly in contravention of the FCT Master Plan.”

A Green area is a space within a city that is without any buildings that have been turned into a park, recreational space. It usually is home to sprawling greenery of shrubs, plants trees sometimes ponds. These areas are mapped out to preserve nature in the midst of developmental constructions. It is accessible by members of the public for relaxation, exercises or just for personal meditation.

The motion was adopted overwhelmingly after being put to a voice vote by House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.
