AnambraDecides2021: INEC In ‘Crucial’ Meeting As APGA Leads In 17 LGAs

18 candidates contested the governorship position in Saturday’s election in Anambra State, which was considered generally peaceful.

Voting took place in the 21 LGAs of the state.

According to INEC, there are 2.5 million registered voters and 5,720 polling units but was no voting in 86 because there are no registered voters there.

Vice-Chancellor, University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi, is the State Collation and Returning officer for the election.

06:40 pm: All results from local governments have been collated. The Returning Officer, Resident Electoral Commissioner, and others are now in a ‘crucial’ meeting to determine the decision to take over Ihiala and Orumba North LGAs where election results were not announced. The results of 19 LGAs have been announced.

Chukwuma Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has secured the majority of the votes cast

The APGA candidate won in 17 of the 19 local government areas where the election took place.

One local government was won by the PDP candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, while the candidate of the YPP, Ifeanyi Ubah, also won in one local government.

However, the collation officers for two local government areas, Ihiala and Orumba North said at the collation center that elections did not hold in their local governments.

Collation Officer, Dr. Michael Otu claimed he signed the election result under duress.

He didn’t give the break down of votes won by parties

The officer, who has stated that he does not believe in the result, accused some INEC officials assigned to him of colluding with those who disrupted the process.

He accused one Comfort Omoregie, an electoral officer, in particular, of tampering with the electoral process.

She denied the accusation and called Dr Otu ‘inexperience’ in election matters.

The Anambra governorship election did not hold in Ihiala LGA, according to Ahmadu Umar, the collation officer.

Elections in some polling units in the LGA were suspended after election officials reported being attacked by hoodlums, according to TheCable.

An election official said some of the attackers claimed to be enforcing an Indigenous People of Biafra sit-at-home directive.

On Thursday, IPOB reversed the order and urged Anambra residents to vote.

Another INEC ad hoc official, Comfort, said hoodlums accused staff of planning to rig the election, while another corps member, Peter, said lateness to polling units led to attacks in some areas.
