Ministry of Power says it is working to meet the December dateline for completion of the Zungeru Hydropower project in Niger State.

The Minister of Power Alh Abubakar Aliyu, stated this while defending the ministry’s 2022 budget in the house of Representatives Abuja.

Alh Abubakar Aliyu said the project when completed Would add seven hundred megawatts to the National Grid to increase access to power in line with the Sustainable Development Goals policy.

The minister also confirmed that the ministry had initiated a National Programme to provide alternative power supply to strategic Government formations for security and sustainable power supply.

Responding to lawmakers’ question on the eleven-month Power outage in Borno State, Alh Abubakar Aliyu, explained that the ministry was collaborating with the State Government to restore power in the State.

While stressing the need for adequate funding to the sector for its criticality to the nation’s economic growth, the minister said the ministry was undergoing reforms that would improve power delivery in the country.

In a remark, the Chairman House Committee on Power Alh Magaji Da’u Aliyu reiterated the House commitment to support the power sector reform in line with the ninth Assembly legislative agenda.
