Open Kano – kari Road To Save Our Roads – Jigawa to FG

Jigawa State Government has decried the massive destruction of the newly constructed roads by heavy duty machines and vehicles plying the roads as a result of the closure of Kano-Kari bridge by the federal government.

The state commissioner of works and transport, Engineer Aminu Usman Gumel stated this to newsmen in Dutse.

He explained that, alot of damages were caused by the heavy duty machines and vehicles which are over the capacity of the newly constructed state roads.

Engineer Aminu Usman Gumel pointed out that, since the closure of the bridge vehicles from Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Borno and Yobe states going to Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states diverted through Jigawa state plying over jigawa state roads.

He said the state government had constructed the roads at the state level quality for simple and low heavy loads mostly for agricultural and farm produce to be transported to homes and markets.

The Commissioner noted that, all vehicles from northwest to northeast as well as neigboring countries such as Cameroon and Chad are using Jigawa state constructed roads as it is the only alternative route.

He therefore called on the federal government as a matter of urgency to repair the bridge and open the Kano-Kar roads so as to save the Jigawa state government’s roads without further delay.

Gumel also appealed the federal government to look at the possibility of paying compensation for the damaged roads.
