The Kano State House of Assembly has received a letter from the executive arm seeking its approval to access 18.7 billion loans from the federal government to cushion the effects of covid-19.
Reading the letter on the floor of the house, Speaker of the House Alhaji Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari said Federal Government had approved the disbursement to all the 36 states as bailout funds.
According to the letter, the state government is seeking the approval of the house to enable it access the funds payable within 30 years at 9% interest rate.
Similarly, another letter was sent to the Assembly by the State Government seeking its approval to secure a loan of over two billion naira for the procurement of 100 BRT Buses.
The letter explained that the State Government had already paid five hundred million naira as deposit and wish to secure a loan for the completion of payment and delivery of the vehicles to ease the challenges of transportation in the state.
In another development, the house has received a letter from the office of the secretary to the State Government, notifying it of the swearing-in of the Chairman and members of the Assembly Service Commission.
The communication also seek the house approval for the reappointment and elevation of Clerk and Deputy Clerk to the post of head of Legislative Services and Permanent Secretary as well as other directors at the State House of Assembly.
It noted that the Clerk, Alhaji Garba Baki Gezawa, has been elevated to the position of Clerk and Head of Legislative Services, while Alhaji Ali Maje was nominated as Deputy Clerk and Permanent Secretary.
The house also resolved to call on the state government to establish special education schools in all the five emirate councils.
This was sequel to the presentation of a report by the house committee on education in respect of a motion sponsored by a member from Takai Local Government Musa Ali Takai seeking the establishment of the centres.
Presenting the report on the floor of the house, the committee Chairman Kabiru Yusuf Isma’il, said the eight member committee has recommended the establishment of a regulatory body to serve as overseer of the schools in the State.
After a debate, the house unanimously adopted the report and adjourned its sitting.
