Proper awareness on the importance of conservating indigenous plants has been described as a great tool in curtaling the menace of deforestation and climate change in the Society.

Former Vice Chancellor of Federal University Dutse Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar stated this during a one day sensitization training for students of primary and secondary, organized by Kano Botanical in Kano state.

Har said the Sensitization programme was organized to introduces plants to children so that they will be aware of the importance of Conservation of plants , especially indigenous plants Species.

Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar said as a result of the destruction indigenous plants , they were no where to be found leading to ignorance among the youths look on its importance to man.

” We organized this training to children to catch them young,so that they know the importance of conservating indigenous plants Species, in those days when we were growing up almost in every home you will see indigenous species but nowadays it’s not the case, they have been replaced by exotic plants, so we are to make them aware and conserve them so that they will be popular like before”

In a remark , a facilitator at the workshop Aliyu Ahmad Nuhu said the sensitization training was aimed at inculcating the discipline of conserving indigenous plants species, geared towards curtaling the menace of deforestation, climate change and other related issues.

He noted that the training would go along way in conserving indigenous plants species which were gradually fading away.

Safiya Isa and Ummul Kulthum Adam who were among the pupils that attended the training, said they learnt how important indigenous plants were to the life and human beings and would embrace the culture of conserving indigenous plants species geared towards having a healthy society.

The Workshop tagged plant day with kid attracted pupils and students of different primary and secondary schools in Kano state.
