The Nigerian Military says it has been able to neutralise over 400 bandits during its recent engagement in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina Stares.

Briefing State House Correspondents on the security situation in the country, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, said over 600 hundred of the bandits had also been arrested, and many kidnapped victims freed.

He said the closure of telecommunications services in the states affected had paid off, as the bandits had greatly been weakened and disoriented.

He also rebuffed the notion that the armed forces were giving preferential treatments to bandits in the north, and handling seccessionists in the southeast and southwest with iron gloves.

General Irabor also said roads closed to traffic in Niger State due to banditry, had been opened and being plied.
