Stakeholders of All Progressives Congress APC, in Northern and Southern Senatorial zones of Kebbi State, says, they will not accept any gubernatorial candidate for 2023 election from the Central zone of the state.

The leader of the coalition of elders for the agitation of rotational governaship in the state, Rtd. Deputy Comptroller General of Customs and Shettiman Argungu, Alhaji Salisu Namagari Argungu, made this known while speaking with newsmen in Kebbi.

He explained that, stakeholders had agreed to support any of the gubernatorial candidate who comes from Kebbi North or Southern zone of the state.

“Group of elders of the APC from Kebbi South and North came together and decided to consult stakeholders within the state so that the seat of governorship which has been domiciled in Gwandu Emirate should henceforth rotate among the senatorial districts”.

He decried that, development was only domiciled in Kebbi Central Senatorial zone saying, there was no presence of government in Kebbi North other than the private sector of the rice Mill.

“Our idea is we don’t say we don’t like this candidate no or this is our candidate no, what we are saying, this time around we want the candidate for any political party that wants to contest governorship election to come from either Kebbi North or Kebbi South, he can be anybody who is capable we are ready to support”.

Rtd. DCG. Namagari Argungu, pointed out that, most of the federal institutions are domiciled within Kebbi Central, Ministers appointed from the state from 1999 to date as well as all the state governor’s from 1999 to date are from Kebbi Central and Gwandu Emirate.

According to him, for them to come up with this idea is that, kebbi has been a land of equity and they want that equity, saying the idea of spreading positions has not been effective in the state.

He sited example with Sokoto and Niger States where from 1999 to date, their Governor’s are rotational.

DCG Argungu, stressed that, as stakeholders of APC in the state, they were trying to sell the idea to the party so that other parties might follow and, it will be a sort of consensus and agreement that henceforth the governorship position should rotate between the senatorial zones.
