The trial of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will resume Monday before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

Mazi Kanu is being tried by the Federal Government on charges bordering on treasonable felony, terrorism, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society.

Although he was granted bail on health grounds, Maria Kanu jumped bail and was re-arrested on the 29th of June

Following his re-arrest and trial in court last month, Justice Binta Nyako granted the request of the prosecution counsel that Mazi Kanu be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services DSS

As at the close of work on Friday, the court’s management was reported to be working with security agencies to avert possible security breach in view of the large turnout of IPOB followers and other spectators often witnessed each time his case came up.

The organisation said its members and other similar bodies would shut down the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, in solidarity with Kanu, despite a directive by the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, warning members of IPoB to stay away from the court sitting.

Although reporters covering the judicial were issued special identity cards for the coverage, only 10 were approved by the DSS to witness the proceedings.

Radio Nigeria also reports that some security operatives, including armed police men with their official vehicles were sighted around the court premises on Sunday evening.
