Director General NEMA,Alhaji Mustapha Habib Presenting clothing items to a displaced child at Bakasi Camp in Maiduguri, Borno State

The Director General National Emergency Management Agency NEMA Alhaji Mustapha Habib has promised to scale up intervention to internally displaced persons in the Northeast.

The Director General made the promise during his maiden assessment visit to Bakasi IDP camp in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

Alhaji Mustapha Habib explained that the purpose of his visit is to ascertain and verify the level of intervention being provided to the displaced.

According to him, one of the major constraints of the Agency is high level of food inflation, however NEMA will continue to strive to provide succor to IDPs in camps and hosts communities.

“One of the problems we face is that the prices of food stuff keep on going up, we don’t have the control over prices of food stuff. But we will try our possible best to continue as the other lady was saying for the past seven years the kind of support they have been getting from NEMA is highly impressive, so we will continue from there”

The NEMA DG said he is impressed with the maturity and level of conduct of the IDPs during the distribution exercise.

Zonal Coordinator NEMA Northeast, Lydia Wagami said the office carries out house to house monthly distribution exercise to households in camps and host communities.

Women Leader of the camp Halima Adama thanked NEMA for the assistance and requested for additional support of food items to people living in camps.

Items presented to each household include 10kg bag of rice, 10kg bag of beans, 10kg bag of maize, cooking oil, 800 grams of condiments and clothing for children.
