The Nineteen Northern States Commissioners Of Education have Converged in Kano for a Meeting on how to Improve student exchange programmes and other isssues bedevilling the Development of the Sector.

Speaking During the opening ceremony of the meeting, Kano State Commissioner Of Education Alhaji Mohammad Sanusi Kiru said it became necessary with a view to addressing challenges around the student Excahnge programme.

He said Kano had two functional unity schools ,Unity school karaye for boys and Government colloge kachako for girls ,saying over four hundred students from the nineteen Northern States were currently studying at the schools.

The Commissioner noted that other issues that would be discussed during the meeting included security of boarding secondary schools, especially with the current challenges affecting Secondary schools in many Parts of the Country.

In a remark the chairman of the student Excahnge programme who doubles as the Commissioner of Education Kaduna state Alhaji Shehu Usman Mohammad said the exchange programmes was introduced in 1984 ,with the aim of creating unity , Cultural understanding and togetherness Among Students of the participating states.

He said the meeting would fine tuned Modalities of enhancing security in the Schools, ensuring that Equal calenders were designed in schools across the region.

Alhaji Shehu Usman Mohammad maintained that the meeting would pave way for creating avenues of improving academic excellence for development of the northern States and the Nation at large.

In his address while declaring the meeting opened Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who was represented by his Deputy Dr Nasir Yusif Gawuna said the meeting was timely especially with regards to the current Security Challenges Affecting Boarding Secondary schools in the Region.

He urged the participants of the meeting to expedite Action in Providing suitable Solutions Of Tackling the Numerous Challenges .
