The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission PLASIEC says it has began the preparations for the conduct of Local Government Elections in the State scheduled for October this year.

PLASIEC chairman Mr. Fabian Ntum, who disclosed this while briefing journalists in Jos said the election is in conjunction with the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC .

He maintained that the choice of the month of October is to avoid any vacuum at the local government level, because the three year tenure of the current local government chairmen shall elapse in the next five months.

Mr. Ntum explained that the election will be conducted in the 17 local Government Areas of the State including Barkin-ladi, Jos south, Jos north and Riyom where the last elections could not hold because of security reports and care taker committees were appointed.

Mr Ntum assured political parties of a free and fair elections, maintaining that PLASIEC will not be partisan as the timetable will be released tomorrow (Tuesday).
