Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed

The Digital Switch Over Project, DSO, has been launched in Lagos State.

At the formal roll out of the Free Digital Television on Thursday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said government acknowledged the extensive reach of modern broadcasting which makes it a veritable tool for national development.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the roll out of the DSO in Lagos was unique because it marked the first time the project would be beaming sixty choice channels to television households.

Speaking, the Acting Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Prof Armstrong Idachaba said apart from over five million subscribers accessing the free digital TV in Lagos, it would also create job, help boost the creative sector and encourage small scale businesses.

Similarly, Chairman, House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, Mr Olusegun Odebunmi expressed the belief that with legislative efforts and sincerity of purpose, the DSO Project would be of immense benefits Nigerians.

Radio Nigeria reports that the launch attracted top government officials, legislators and major players in the nation’s broadcast Industry.
