The city of Ilorin, the Kwara state capital and environs today recorded its first rainfall of the year.

The heavy downpour, which lasted for about an hour, was a welcome relief for residents who had experienced hot weather conditions in the past few months.

Some of the areas that witnessed the heavy downpour included, Muritala Mohammed Way, Post office area, Unity road ,Maraba, Sabo -Oke ,Gaa Akanbi, and Oloje among others.

Speaking on the possible benefit of the first rain, a Professor of Geography at University of llorin, Professor Funsho Olorunfemi said the early commencement of rain was an indication that farmers would record bumper harvest this year.

He urged farmers to start early preparation for the new planting season.
