Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC says over 60% of teachers in Nigeria’s public primary schools lack fiunctional digital literacy to participate effectively in any e-learning environment.

The Executive Secretary UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi disclosed this during the commissioning ceremony of basic education projects at the Federal University Dutse, in Jigawa state.

Dr Hamid Bobboyi explained that this was discovered during the Covid-19 lockdown last year.

According to him, apart from the commission’s effort atf ensuring development of basic education in Nigeria, digital literacy is another area the commission focused on.

He explained that the commission was also building 7 zonal and state model schools to actualise it’s vision of a robust digital basic education in Nigeria.

Dr Hamid Bobboyi pointed out that digital resource center was being constructed in Abuja to coordinate digital learning in the basic education sub-sector.

He said when completed, it wouldl put the sub-sector on the digital map of the world.

The Executive Secretary therefore commended the outgoing vice Chancellor of the Federal University Dutse, for all achievements in the last five years of her tenure.
