President Muhammadu Buhari has urged good spirited individuals, groups and organisations to contribute to excellence in the nation’s tertiary education system.

He made the call at the ground breaking ceremony for the establishment of As Salam Islamic University in Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

Represented by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, the President pledged to support the ongoing construction of the university which is an initiative of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah was Iqamatus Sunnah, JIBWIS.

The President noted his administration accords premium to education and will support any effort to expand the tertiary education system in the country.

He also pledged to make his personal donation to the project to demonstrate his commitment to actualizing the establishment of As-Salam University.

In his speech, Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar lauded the foresight of JIBWIS for establishing the university in Jigawa State.

He noted that his administration will provide all support needed to actualize the project.

Governor Badaru Abubakar pledged to donate more parcel of land to the university besides the 150 hectares it donated recently.

He also announced a donation of N50 million to the project, similar donations made by Kano, Katsina, Sokoto and Kebbi States.

Similarly, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State made a donation of N2 million to the project.

Radio Nigeria reports that Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, several Emirs, and representatives of federal and state governments and several non-governmental organisations.
