Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) says a new evidence has shown that airborne transmission of COVID-19 is possible.

Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu made this known during the National briefing of the PTF on the 13th, July 2020 in Abuja

He  said over the past few weeks, increasing evidence had emerged, that in addition to droplet infection,  airborne transmission was also possible as a mode of COVID-19 spread.

Dr Ihekweazu therefore urged citizens to always wear a face mask and adhere to other non-pharmaceutical protocols, such as avoiding mass gatherings, practicing social distancing and washing of hands.

The NCDC Director General confirmed that staying together in closed spaces and clusters such as  restaurants and small rooms with very poor ventilation increases the risk of transmission.

Meanwhile the NCDC has put in place machinery to begin electronic transmission of COVID-19 results.

Director General of the NCDC said people would no longer have to wait for long to receive their results as they can easily use a code to electronically check it.
