National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC has approved the use of chloroquine for the control and treatment of COVID 19.

The Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, at a news briefing in Lagos, said it usage should be strictly by doctor’s prescription and also not to be sold over the counter.

Prof. Adeyeye explained that although chloroquine had been banned due to its resistance to malaria, the drug, which was subjected to clinical trials in ten hospitals in China and the United State, was successful.

NAFDAC is not approving Chloroquine as a product that can be used for Coronavirus but for clinical trials only.
