NGO charges CSOs To Track Constituency Projects In Kano

A non Governmental Organization Resource Centre for Human Rights & Civic Education, CHRICED has charged journalists and civil Society Organizations to track constituency projects in all fourty four local government areas of Kano state,with the aim of ensuring prudent Management of public Resources.

Executive Director of the NGO,Zikrullahi Ibrahim gave the charge while unveiling a three year programme, Community-Driven Anti-Corruption Initiatives to track and uncover shaddy deals in constituency projects across the State.

Zikrullahi Ibrahim explained that the programme was aimed at reducing corrupt practices with regards to delivery of key social services in the state.

He said the project would empower residents with skills and capacities to use innovative approaches, and legal provisions to ensure funds for constituency projects achieved the real objectives for which they were appropriated.

The Executive Director expressed worry over yearly appropriations for constituency projects yet nothing physically on ground to commensurate the funds.

He added that the NGO would work hand in hand with anti-graft agencies, CSOs and media,aimed at Achieving the set objectives.

According to him, “one of the major tragedies of our country is the fact that since the advent of the current democratic dispensation in 1999, trillions of Naira of public resources spent by governments have not translated to a better life for the people.

In a remark, the president kano civil society forum, comrade Ibrahim waiya said the initiative was a welcome development aimed at improving the well being of the General populace.

He added that the civil society organizations would work hand in hand with the organization geared towards Achieving the set objectives.
