States To Be Reimbursed For Completed Federal Roads, Others – Minister

The Federal government has reiterated its commitment to reimburse state governments expenses incurred on construction and rehabilitation of federal roads and bridges. 

Minister of State Works and Housing Umar El-Yakub gave the commitment in an interview with newsmen shortly after inspecting Maiduguri-Gamborun Ngala road and Customs flyover in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. 

Mr El-Yakub said he is leading an inter-ministerial committee set up by the President to look into projects executed by state governments with a view to making refund after approval from the National Assembly. 

According the him, the committee will also visit Chibok local government to inspect the construction of Damboa-Chibok road which is at advanced stage of completion. 

“Am here leading a team that is from different ministries started with ministry of Works, ministry of Transport, office of the Secretary to the Government of the federation amongst others to inspect those projects to ascertain their position whether they have been completed or at what point of construction after that we will write our report for the approval of the President before forwarding to National Assembly to approve the reimbursement to state governments” El-Yakub said.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the standard of road and bridge constructed which has eased movement of vehicles and people in the metropolis and even beyond. 

He also assured that the Damboa-Chibok road will soon be completed following the restoration of peace in the state.

The Minister of State and his delegation earlier visited Shehu of Borno Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi where the royal father requested for more road projects in the state which borders three countries.
