Human Trafficking : Diligent Prosecution Of Culprits A Strong Deterrent – Governor Abdulrazaq

Kwara state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazq has
called for the arrest and prosecution of persons involve in human trafficking to serve as deterrent to others.

AbdulRazq made the call during the inauguration of the state Task force On human trafficking in Ilorin.

Represented by his deputy Mr Kayode Alabi , governor AbdulRazq said human trafficking is an issue that has taken economic and social dimension that need to be nipped in the bud.

He called for the enforcement of all anti human trafficking laws to ensure total compliance.

AbdulRazq assured the determination of the state government to collaborate with necessary agencies to put an end to the menace of human trafficking .

In her address, the Director General National Agency For The Prohibition Of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP ) Dr. Fatima Waziri-Azi represented by the Director Research And Programmes Development Unit, Mr Olubiyi Olusayo commended Kwara state government for the support given to the fight against trafficking in persons.

She explained that sixty one percent of human trafficking cases in Nigeria is internally driven while thirty nine percent happen across our borders.

Dr Fatima noted that there is the need for collaboration in the enforcement of the law to reduce human trafficking to the minimum.

In her goodwill message , the International Organization For Migration (IOM) Counter Trafficking Officer ,Mrs Tossadit Amira-Bellounis said there is the need to look at the issue that lead to the involvement of young people in trafficking in persons.

She urged that opportunities should be given to younger persons to discourage them from traveling outside their country.
