Govt Urged To Increase Job Opportunity For Youth

Government at all levels have been urged to work toward increasing job opportunities for the youths to reduce unemployment in the society.

The Director General, Michael Imoudu National Institute For Labour Studies,(MINILS) Comrade Issa Aremu made the call while addressing Journalists on the commemoration of “World Decent Work Day, Themed: “Wage Justice” held in Ilorin, the Kwara state Capital.

He appealed to government and other employers of labour to dedicate themselves to protect and sustained jobs across the country.

According to him, workers should not be seen as a tool that can be hired and fired at will.

Comrade Aremu commended President Muhammadu Buhari for securing worker’s job despite recession and challenges posed by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

He called for the enforcement of laws that encourage Nigerians to patronise what was produced locally.

The Director General expressed worry over the closure of cement factory in Kogi state, adding that such actions may lead to job loss.

Comrade Aremu however appealed to federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to adopt dialogue in resolving their disputes to save jobs.
