Electricity : Delivery Of Siemens Equipment, Others Begin In September – Minister

The 2nd and 3rd phased delivery of spare parts and new equipment ordered from Siemens in Germany to boost power generation in the country will begin in September, this year.

The Minister of Power, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, stated this while briefing newsmen on the memoranda he presented at the Federal Executive Council meeting.

He explained that the 1st phase of equipment delivered was meant to increase the operational capacities of transmission and distribution of electricity from 5000 to 7000 megawatts, adding that the procurement of Energy Performance Certificate, EPC, in motion.

Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu said the other phases of the delivery of the equipment included 10 mobile sub-stations and 10 mobile transformers.

He explained that the transmission lines in the country did not have the capacity to evacuate the 3000 megawatts being generated, hence the need to procure components that would strengthen them.

The Minister however lamented that all the efforts done to boost electricity in the country were being sabotaged by enemies of state.

He said FEC had also approved a a multi-billion Naira contract for the design, manufacture, construction, and installation of 260-kilometre transmission line from Birnin Kebbi to Yauri, through Zuru in Kebbi State.

Similar, a multi-million Naira contract was approved for the manufacture of  260 mva, 132/33 kva transformers.
