Election Postponement: Jigawa INEC Ad-hoc Staff To Receive Refresher Training

Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Jigawa State says it will use the election postponement period to organize refresher training for ad-hoc staff.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof Muhammad Bashar stated this when fielding questions from newsmen in Dutse, the state capital.

He said that the decision of the electoral body to postpone the elections had affected its preparations for the conduct of the elections in the state.

According to him, the Commission will use the period to retrain ad-hoc staff for better service delivery.

Professor Muhammad Bashar pointed out that, the time frame needed to reconfigure the BVAS was not less than five days, adding that between now and the earlier scheduled elections, the election was postponed.

He further explained that the Commission ommission had taken note of challenges encountered during the last Presidential and National Assembly Elections in the state, hence the decision to retrain ad-hoc staff to correct the mistakes.

The REC added that the Commission had received sensitive and Non-sensitive materials, both were sorted out and allocated under the supervision of party agents and INEC staff at the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN., for the Gubernatorial and State Assembly Elections, after which they remain under the custody of the apex bank.

According to him, the Commission has so far received applications for the issuance of certified true copies of ballot papers and result sheets and also 20 petitions and complaints from both political parties and candidates in the state.

Professor Bashar however, urged residents to come out en masse and vote in the upcoming Governorship and State Assembly elections.
