Navy Partners NASENI On Technology, Ship Building

Nigerian Navy has signed a five year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), to enhance Local ownership of technology to improve manufacturing of ship and other maritime related Infrastructure to boost the security of the nation.

The Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, Professor Mohammad Haruna said the MOU will ensure that huge foreign exchange would be saved with the initiative.

Professor Haruna emphasised that the MOU which had already commenced would help harmonise the various capacity and manpower between both Institutions and foster indigenous production of maritime equipment and shipments which has the potential of enhancing the economy and security of the nation.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo who signed on behalf of the Navy said the agreement would strengthen inter agency collaboration in the fight against insecurity using indigenous technology as the move had started yielding result with more presence of the Navy on the sea thereby reducing piracy within the shores of the nation.

The Chief of Naval Engineering, Rear Admiral Sulaiman El-Ladan who is in charge of the implementation of the project gave a brief of the obligation of NASENI which is to provide training research and development while the Navy would provide the manpower and assist in funding of the project in the execution of the MOU which started since 2016.

He emphasised that the partnership would also enhance the development of sustainable Blue Economy for Nigeria’s prosperity.
