Kwara Residents Decry Closure Of Commercial Banks

The residents of Kwara state have expressed worry over closure of many commercial Banks to customers, despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s directives on issuance of redesigned naira notes.

Many residents who went to carry out transactions in the banks met locked gates and non dispensing ATMs.

Radio Nigeria correspondent, who went round Ilorin metropolis discovered that GTB, Unity, Polaris and Eco banks among others were under lock and key.

However, at some of the ATMs customers were able to withdraw five thousand naira each.

Some of the commercial banks customers who spoke with Radio Nigeria, expressed displeasure over the rationale behind the closure of banks and empty Automated Teller Machines in major areas.

A resident, Mr Olusegun Tolani said that the commercial banks he has account with had closed their branches since last week, adding that he had to resort to using Electronic banking and Point of Sale service, POS to transact business.

Mr Tolani noted that some traders, especially those selling vegetables, bread and other minor items still demand for physical cash.

He appealed to the federal government to urgently enforce the President Muhammadu Buhari’s directives to alleviate the sufferings of the common man.
