Disabled Persons Remind INEC On Provisions of Amended Electoral Act

Sokoto State Police Commissioner Muhammad Usaini Gumel has reaffirmed his Command’s determination of ensuring peaceful conduct of the upcoming elections in the state.

The Commissioner gave the affirmation at a town hall meeting aimed at encouraging the participation of persons with disabilities in the elections process held in Sokoto state.

He assured the disabled persons a special treatment on the election days to enable them cast their votes without hinderance .

Usaini Gumel said already, the command had commenced stop and search operations to weed off any person found wielding any kind of illicit weapons during political campaigns in all parts of the state to check youth restiveness that could shortchanged electoral processes in the state.

The police commissioner cautioned all political parties in the state and supporters to adheres to the law guiding the election to avoid arrest and prosecution.

He explained that the police command observed that the ongoing campaigns in the state is in full violations of the provisions of the laws guiding the electoral processes.

Earlier, in her speech, the Program officer of the Inclusive Friends Association, Miss Tracy Onabis said the town hall meeting which was tagged “Get Out the Vote” was aimed at enlightening the persons with disabilities on what to do on the elections days .

The program officer advised the disabled persons to ask for the necessary assistive materials for persons with disabilities to enable them have an independent voting process.

She added that the lnclusive Friends Association is looking forward to the implementation of the provisions of the section 54-2 of the recently amended Electoral Act, 2022
for effective service delivery.
