Nasarawa: Explosion In Doma Kills 27

At least 27 persons have been killed in an explosion in Doma local government area of Nasarawa State.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ramhan Nansel, told Radio Nigeria in Lafia that the blast occurred on Tuesday night.

He said the explosion took place in Rukubi, a border community located in Doma Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Nansel, however, said the state police command was “working in collaboration” with sister security agencies and the state government to “unravel the circumstances that led to the bombing”, as well as arrest the perpetrators of the “dastardly act”.

“It is unfortunate that such a thing happened,” he said.

“Twenty-seven of the herdsmen were killed after a bomb exploded in Doma LGA. The police and other security agencies are working round the clock to understand what led to the attack and track down those involved in the act.” He added.

Meanwhile, the State governor, Abdullahi Sule, has reacted to the incident, vowing to ensure that those behind the killing of the herdsmen were apprehended and “made to face the law”.

The governor urged all Fulani people across the State to “remain calm”, saying the state government was working with the neighbouring Benue State government to “proffer a lasting solution” to the incessant attacks on people along the Nasarawa/Benue border.

He added that security operatives had been deployed to curtail any further break down of law and order in the area.

Speaking on the incident, the chairman of Doma LGA, Ahmed Sarki-Usman, condemned the attack in its entirety.

The State Chairman, Miyetti Allah Kautal Horai, Ardo Lawal Dano expressed shock at the bombing.

He appealed to the federal and state governments to come to their aid in order to arrest those involved, as well as calm the situation and restore normalcy in the area.
