FG Moves To End Petroleum Scarcity, Sets Up 14-Man Committee

Federal Government has constituted a 14-Man Steering Committee to manage the supply and distribution of Petroleum Products.

President Muhammadu Buhari who will Chair the Committee gave approval for its constitution in a move to find a lasting solution to the disruptions in the Supply and Distribution of Petroleum Products across the country.

According to a Statement by the Senior Adviser, Media and Communications to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Horatius Egua, the Minister, Chief Timipre Sylva is to serve as Alternate Chairman of the Committee.

The Committee is expected to among other things ensure transparent and efficient supply and distribution of petroleum products across the Federation.

Other Terms of Reference for the Committee include: ensuring National Strategic Stock Management, visibility on the NNPC Limited Refineries Rehabilitation Programme, and ensuring end-to-end Tracking of Petroleum Products, especially PMS, to ascertain daily national consumption and also eliminate smuggling.

Members of the 14-Man Committee include the Minister of Finance, the Permanent Secretary, the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the National Economic Adviser to the President, the Director-General, the Department of State Services, the Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service, the Chairman, Economic, and Financial Crimes Commission and the Commandant-General, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Other members are, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Group Chief Executive Officer, of NNPC Limited, and the Special Adviser, Special Duties to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources while the Technical Advisor (Midstream) to the Minister will serve as Secretary.
