NOA Embarks On Sensitization Of New Naira Notes In Kebbi

The Kebbi State office of the National Orientation Agency-NOA, has embarked on sensitization on the new redesigned 200, 500 and 1000 Naira notes with a warning that, there would be no extension after the deadline of 31st January 2023.

The State Director of the agency, Joseph Yaro, who stated this while briefing newsmen in his office said, there would be no swapping of old notes for the new ones.

The NOA Director, advised people to take their old notes to the banks for immediate deposits as deposit of the old notes by the apex bank closes by 31 of January, this year.

Yaro said, staff of the agency in the twenty one local government areas of Kebbi state have been going round sensitizing the populace on the new redesigned naira notes.

He stated that, CBN decided to redesigned the 200, 500 and 1000 Naira notes because of the large volume of bank notes that were being hoarded by the public, increase in rate of counterfeiting of Naira notes and money laundering.

NOA Director stated that, CBN observed that, 85 percent of the money issued were not in the banks but circulating within the public, only 15 percent are in banks.

He explained that, the CBN redesigned the naira denominations to tackle drug barons, money launders among others.
