With the INEC’s extension of deadline for the collection of the Permanent Voters Card, PVCs by eight days, Traditional and religious leaders have appealed to registered voters to ensure they collected their PVCs.
One of them, was the Commissioner for Religious Affairs Zamfara state, Dr Muhammad Tukur Sani Jangebe.
Dr Jangebe said, the Independent National Electoral Commission – INEC, was established by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to among other things organize elections into various political offices in the country.
Dr Tukur Sani Jangebe noted that, the commission is determined to ensure that registered voters have ample opportunity to collect their PVCs ahead of the forthcoming election.
He said the PVCs is the only weapon for the electorates to elect leaders of their choice who can deliver and provide dividend of democracy to the people at the grassroot levels.
Dr Jangebe who is also the Chief Imam of Muslims Foundation Jummat Mosque who warned citizens against selling their votes for either money, foodstuffs, or because of their religious beliefs said they should try as much as possible not to do so this time around.
“The troubles, pains, and difficulties Nigerians goes through are many, therefore the best ways to reduce them or get a solution is to vote for the right leaders and make Nigeria better for the next generation.
“Therefore, the selling of votes, or not even collecting of PVC should be discouraged to have a better, free, and developed Nigeria”.
According to him, the Commission has printed 13,868,441 PVCs for all new valid registrants as well as applicants for transfer or replacement of cards, he therefore called on eligible voters whose registered to collect their cards.
The Imam also called on Muslims ummah and the northerners to pray for the peaceful conduct of 2023 general elections across the country for unity and development.
