FG Committed To Diversified Energy Sources For Sustainable Development – Minister

Federal Government says it is committed to harnessing the abundant alternative energy resources for sustainable economic development of the country.

Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Mr Adeleke Olurunnimbe Mamora stated this at a stakeholders sensitization and consultation workshop on a proposed 30 megawatt wind turbine technology farm, held at the Usman Danfodiyo University in Sokoto state.

Mamora said the federal government is working towards improving energy sources in a bid to achieving energy related goals of the present administration.

He said government accords priority to strengthening ways of exploring as well as increasing renewable energy deployment towards overcoming the energy crisis bedeviling the country.

The Minister explained that the federal government had focused on promoting investments into the energy sector and renewable energy deployment with a view to reducing green house gas emission and mitigate the impact of global warming .

Radio Nigeria Correspondent in Sokoto state report that the Minister said the choice of Sokoto state for the project was for its favourable renewable energy potentials .

Mr Adeleke acknowledged governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Sultan Abubakar and key stakeholders for supporting the drive towards realizing energy diversification in the county.

In his remarks governor Aminu Waziri Waziri Tambuwal said the move by the federal government was a commendable effort and a turning point for the nation towards achieving growth and development.

The governor who was represented by the Secretary to the state Government, Alhaji. Muhammad Mainasara Ahmad said the initiative was a catalyst for electricity and renewable power revolution in the country.

According to him, the state government had developed a frame work for sustained partnership with the private sector to promote renewable energy innovations through responsive decentralized platform.

Tambuwal assured the state government’s readiness to support and drive the implementation processes of the project by providing the required enabling environment in land and other support mechanisms aimed at achieving the desired objectives.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Usman Danfodiyo University Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis represented by Lawal Sa’idu of Department of Energy Research and Innovation , noted that the project was a land mark drive towards putting Nigeria on the path of achieving sustainable access to renewable energy for community and human benefits as well the country’s economic growth.
