Borno State : FG, King Salman Centre Flag Off Distribution of Relief Items items To IDPs

The Federal government has flagged off the distribution of food items to ninety six thousand internally displaced persons in Borno state 

The distribution exercise which is third in the series was donated by King Salman humanitarian aid and relief center, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 

Similarly, the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation has also presented relief items to victims of 2022 flood disaster in the state.

At a ceremony at El-Miskin camp in Jere local government, Director General National Emergency Management Agency NEMA Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed said between 2018 and 2021, King Salman Centre has donated relief items in form of food basket to IDPs in Borno, Yobe and Zamfara states.

He explained that the Centre has donated to sixteen thousand households in Borno state, adding that each household will receive 59.8 kilogramme basket of food.

Alhaji Ahmed noted that the impact of the interventions have saved lives and given hope to thousand of beneficiaries. 

“This food assistance will no doubt go a long way in sustaining resettled populations and IDPs in the targeted communities. The direct distribution of the items will be handled by NEMA in collaboration with Borno SEMA ” DG NEMA said.

Borno state Governor Babagana Zulum observed that El-Miskin is among the existing camps that have not been promptly receiving food and other relief items.

He called on NEMA to ensure equitable distribution of the items to intended beneficiaries. 

Representatives of King Salman humanitarian and relief center Al-Yusuf Abdulkareem and that of Presidential Committee on Flood Malam Umar Gulani said the intervention aims to cushion the impact of insurgency and flood in the state.

Some of the beneficiaries Khalifa Shehu El-Miskin and Hajja Shehu thanked the Centre and the Presidential Committee for the support, pointing out that they spend about eight months before receiving any form of relief items.
